    Ben W asked:

My younger brother by two years is looking into buying a copy of one of the Mortal Kombat games, probably ‘Deception’. I’m not particularly fond of the idea, mainly because I would be rather embarrassed to have a game with an M rating around the house. I’m not particularly squeemish about the blood or anything, but the prospect of coming home from school and seeing him playing an exceptionally violent game doesn’t appeal to me. My parents are involved in this discussion, too, since 13-year old Danny isn’t allowed to buy the game on his own, of course. I cannot veto him totally, but I would like to find and suggest an alternative fighting game clone of Mortal Kombat. The only systems we have are a Gamecube and our 2004 PC, which runs relatively well. Any ideas?

    • does it matter?

    • Don’t give into the little snot. I’m tired of parents buying M-rated games for minors simply to pacify them. Its irresponsible. Thank you for asking for advice on the matter. If he wants a fighting game, give him Street Fighter II. Those are fun games without all the gore. Then again, Mortal Kombat isn’t really THAT bad- the gore is very fake looking, to the point of being funny. Just stay away from Grand Theft Auto, ok? Fantastic games, just not suitable for a 13 year old boy.

    • Good question. Although I agree with the concept of it being very gory, that’s all it is. No cussing, no Sexual themes or nudity, just fighting. And if you really have a problem with the gore, you can just turn it off. And I know this may not have had experience of kids teasing you, but that’s what they’ll do. They’re going to call him a baby and stuff, and it might lead to him getting in trouble. Just a possibility.
